Description
1920s black silk velvet with gold, silver & copper lame’ threads woven in a geometric floral pattern on sheer black netting. Part of the top and sleeves are sheer see-through netted floral fabric with a flesh colored half slip sewn in place. The lower part of the silk velvet sleeves tailored with a series of velvet covered buttons as a closures. The top of this dress is rather roomy.. (see measurements below) The hip area is a bit more snug.. true to the style of the period, as the dresses often rests lightly on the hips.. If not for the hip area of the dress, this would fit more like a medium… but the measure across the hips are limited to 38 inches.
There is no side snaps along the bodice as an opening to get into the dress, as it has to fit over your head to get into… There are however, a series of snaps along the sides of the neckline, opening up the neck area to slip into this dress.
If you are not familiar with silk velvet.. they are so soft & incredible to wear against the skin.
The skirt on this dress flares out on one side with extra fabric. When worn you’ll notice the asymmetrical flow of the silk velvet fabric.
This garment is in EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION.. with no real flaws that I have noticed.. for this being nearly 100 years old.. it’s a wearable treasure.
There is no maker label attached to this dress which is common for the period.
I would say that this dress is a WOMEN’S SMALL to MEDIUM with a narrow hips.
