Description
1920’s Sheer Silk Georgette – Bias-cut Gatsby Dress.
A Garden Party Delight…
This dress has layers of soft chiffon in a light yellow color that softly floats in the air when worn.. Epitome of the Gatsby Era, these garden party dresses were the pick for many during the 1920’S Era.
This is in EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION…with only a couple very minor flaws to mention.
There are a few very faint spots on the front of the bodice.. Dry cleaning removed all but a very faint shadow of a mark.
The only other thing I noticed was a tiny stitch by the top of one shoulder strap.
(See last 2 images for details) These are really minor and hard to even see when worn.
This is actually in incredible condition for being over 100 years old..
With care this dress is totally wearable. Just keep in mind anything this old and especially silk, should be worn with care. They are fragile and should be treated as such.
The fabric is in great condition, seems really strong. There is no staining or snag holes under the arm pits.. which is generally the 1st signs of wear.
There is no slip with this dress, and it is completely sheer. A half slip, slip or a body stocking could always be worn with this.
I used a fan in the room which really worked well showing the volume of the flowing tulip shaped handkerchief skirt.
No label, or size in dress, which is typical of this period..
I would say that this dress is a WOMEN’S SIZE SMALL to MEDIUM (with a 27 to 29 inch waist would probably be best)
**Check Measurements below to be certain the size is what you need:
Bust taken under the arm pit to arm pit: 34 to a max of 36 inches
Waist area: 34 inches .. (chiffon is somewhat forgiving, but is to be worn lose with a smaller waist size) (27 to 29 inches would probably fit best)
The mannequin form has a 27 inch waist. (34 x 27 x 28)… I think an inch or so larger than the mannequin would fit well. (these dresses should not fit tight)
Hip area: 38 inches
Total length, from the top of the shoulder to the hem: 49 inches
